Oxfordshire Salaried Primary Care Dental Service (OSPCDS)

What is the Dental Service and who provides it?

Dental services are provided by Oxfordshire Salaried Primary Care Dental Service (OSPCDS) which provides National Health Service dentistry to a wide range of patients including both adults and children.

The main role of the service is to provide dental care to patients requiring either special care dentistry or specialist care. In addition to this core role the service also provides emergency care for patients requiring urgent dental treatment who do not currently have a dentist of their own.

The OSPCDS provides care for patients from dental clinics across Oxfordshire located at Abingdon, Banbury, Bicester, Didcot, East Oxford, Luther Street, Kidlington, Wallingford, Wantage and Witney.

Within the service there are a number of specialists including oral surgery, paediatric and special care dentistry. Several of the clinics are equipped to provide dental treatment with inhalation and/or intravenous sedation and the service also provides dental treatment under general anaesthesia for children and adult special care patients.

For patients who are unable to access the clinics easily there is a countywide domiciliary service available by referral. All the clinics have wheelchair access, facilities for patients with disabilities including hoists for patients who have difficulty transferring into the dental chair.

Opening hours of the Dental Clinics

Most clinics are open daily Monday to Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm and there is an NHS Out of Hours service, in the event of an emergency, which operates daily including weekends. The opening hours of some of the smaller clinics may vary so please check prior to appointments.

Out of Hours service

The Out of Hours service is available Monday to Thursday 6.30pm-9.30pm, Friday between 6.30pm-10.00pm, Saturday and Sundays are 9.00am-1.00pm followed by 2.00pm-6.00pm. Bank Holidays and Bank Holiday weekends are 9.00am-5.00pm followed by 6.00pm-9.00pm and is based in Oxford.

The service is for emergencies only and all calls are triaged by a dental nurse prior to any appointments being made. Please telephone 0845 345 8995 for this service.
