New Mental Health Hospital
Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust has commissioned the building of a new mental health hospital in Buckinghamshire providing services for adults and older adults across the county. The new building, which will cost £42.8m, will be a significant improvement from the existing facilities, situated mainly at the Tindal Centre and the John Hampden Unit and it will contain a broader range of services than previously provided across Buckinghamshire. The building will have lots of flexible space so it can respond to the changing needs of both our patients and the Trust in the future. It is anticipated that the building will be completed in late 2013/early 2014.
The new hospital will provide 80 adult and older adult inpatient room, all with ensuite facilities that exceed current Department of Health standards around single sex accomodation and privacy and dignity. It has also been designed to be environmentally sustainable and includes many eco-friendly features such as ground source heat pumps and natural ventilation.
The environment in which people are cared for has a significant impact on their experience, recovery and wellbeing. The new hospital will use lots of natural light and ventilation and will feel spacious and welcoming and will incorporate a large cafe area which will be open to staff, visitors and the local community. The new hospital will also have lots of large outdoor spaces.
