As part of National Smile Month (www.nationalsmilemonth.org), Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust sought the public’s help to name two new characters for its Dental Service which provides specialist dental services for people with additional needs.

The cartoon superhero tooth Captain Fluoride and his villain counterpart Patch McCavity were designed by local artist Genna Byrne and will appear on OHFT’s dental resources and websites to promote healthy mouth messages:

  • Brushing twice a day for 2 minutes using fluoride toothpaste
  • Cutting down on how much and how often we have sugary foods and drinks
  • Visiting the dentist regularly

Gemma Strachan, Health Improvement Practitioner said: ‘We had over 100 entries. Thank you for supporting the campaign! We are pleased to announce the character’s names, the four winners will each receive a year’s supply of oral health products’

The winners are:

Evan Moody & Tommy Moody, Wantage Dental Clinic

Eileen Kilduff, Ward Administrator, Littlemore Hospital

Ornat Ni Mhuiri, via the Oxford Health Facebook page
