Minor Injuries Units and First Aid Units

Important information

We are now operating an appointment system to allow for social distancing within our waiting areas. Please call 111 in the first instance, or the unit number, prior to your visit. The unit can advise you on whether your recent injury is suitable for the service. You will be offered an appointment based on your clinical need. You will be seen as close to your appointment time as possible. However, there could be a delay given the urgent nature of the service.

If you attend without an appointment you will be triaged and may be asked to wait or return at a later time.

You and those accompanying you must bring and wear a face covering. If possible, please attend by yourself. If you require someone to bring you, they should wait in the car unless their support is essential for your visit.

Hand cleaning will be required as you enter our buildings and during your visit. Please maintain social distancing and observe instructions given by staff and on signs. These are in place to keep you and staff safe.

For  life-threatening injury, call 999 or attend your nearest A&E.

Minor Injuries Units (MIUs) are for  injuries, such as deep cuts, eye injuries, broken bones, severe sprains, minor head injury, minor burns and scalds. Many people go to Accident and Emergency departments when they could be treated just as well and probably quicker at a Minor Injuries Unit.

In Accident and Emergency staff must give priority to serious and life-threatening conditions, so if you go there with a minor injury you may have to wait longer to be seen. It is better to go to a Minor Injuries Unit if there is one locally.

First Aid units (FAUs) run currently from Bicester. FAUs do not have X-ray facilities. They can also be accessed via 111 or by calling the unit directly. They are run by a team of highly qualified nurse practitioners with a lot of experience and expertise in the treatment of minor injuries.

Download the MIU and FAUs patient information leaflet

Please call 111 or the unit directly prior to attending the Minor Injury Unit to arrange an appointment. Upon arrival you will be asked to wait in your car until a clinician is ready to see you. These measures have been implemented due to COVID-19 to reduce contact with other patients and staff.
