Minor Injuries Units and First Aid Units

What we do

Minor Injuries Units (MIUs)

miu 2

Minor Injuries Units (MIUs) are for injuries that have been sustained in the last seven days that are not life-threatening, but still need treatment. They can treat things like:

  • Deep cuts
  • Eye injuries
  • Broken bones
  • Severe sprains
  • Minor head injuries
  • Minor burns and scalds

Many people go to Accident and Emergency (A&E) when they could be treated just as well — and probably quicker — at a Minor Injuries Unit.

In A&E, the doctors and nurses need to treat the most serious and life-threatening cases first. So if you have a minor injury, you may wait a long time to be seen.

It’s often better to go to a Minor Injuries Unit if there is one nearby.

First Aid units (FAUs)

First Aid Units (FAUs) are currently based in Bicester.

  • FAUs do not have X-ray facilities.
  • You can get help from a FAU by calling 111 or phoning the unit directly.
  • FAUs are run by a team of highly qualified nurse practitioners.
  • They have lots of experience and expertise in treating minor injuries.

Appointments

  • If you attend without an appointment you will be triaged and may be asked to wait or return at a later time.
  • For life-threatening injury, call 999 or attend your nearest A&E.
