Abbie-May’s nomination

Abbie is a highly specialist Podiatrist based at Windrush Health Centre, Witney. She treats patients at high risk of lower limb amputation and who have complex underlying medical complaints.

A patient attended clinic with a deteriorating foot ulceration and spreading infection. The patient and family had attended the acute hospital over the bank holiday weekend and was deteriorating.

Abbie rightly suspected sepsis in this patient and after assessing, called 999 to escalate this patient for further assessment.

She treated the patient, continually assessed their condition, liaised with the vascular and plastics teams at the JR to ensure the patient was safety netted and signposted.

She stayed beyond her work hours to ensure the patient was assessed and treated and had adequate follow up and during the appointment was both caring and compassionate to both the patient and family.

The patients foot complaint is complex, as is managing other medical history and Abbie’s swift intervention is likely to make the outcome for the patient more positive.
