Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (EDNOS)

Home icon

Some people with an eating disorder may receive a diagnosis of Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (EDNOS) or Atypical Eating disorder. Around 50% of all people diagnosed with an eating disorder are diagnosed with EDNOS.

A diagnosis of EDNOS is typically given to someone whose symptoms didn’t meet all of the criteria for anorexia or bulimia or where their symptoms are a mix of those for anorexia and bulimia. This shows us that trying to describe eating disorders is difficult and every individual is slightly different. Individuals with EDNOS/Atypical Eating Disorder can be just as severely affected by their condition.
