Top tips for friends

When one of your friends becomes unwell with an eating disorder it can be a very worrying and confusing time.

  • If you are concerned that a friend might have an eating disorder, talk to an adult about this (perhaps your parent or a school teacher).
  • Don’t be surprised if your friend becomes more withdrawn, this is part of the disorder.
  • Keep supporting your friend, they will really appreciate this even if they can’t tell you.
  • Be aware that meal times will be very difficult for your friend.
  • Try to avoid any comments about their appearance (even positive ones).
  • Help them keep going with their normal interests and friendships.
