About the event

Are you a qualified mental health nurse who is interested in working in a new and enthusiastic team where support and training for staff is prioritised?

If you are, an exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Trust at our Meadow Unit. This is a purpose built 8 bed psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU) for children and adolescents at the Warneford hospital in Oxford.

We are looking for experienced mental health nurses to join the team.

Incentive premium

*This opportunity carries an incentive premium of £3,500 (pro-rata) which will be paid in instalments over an 18 month period.

About PICU

This Unit provides short term intensive treatment for acutely unwell adolescents while keeping the young people as close to home as possible.

The £6 million building, supported by NHS England Improvement funding, enables young people experiencing the most acutely disturbed phase of a serious mental disorder to receive specialist help closer to home. The unit has a seclusion suite, de-escalation room, school rooms and an outside gym and sports area.

The PICU provides a safe and supportive environment whilst young people are in the most acute and vulnerable stage of their illness.

How we work

The units core model is positive behavioural support (PBS) and other interventions will be considered for young people including medication, individual and group psychological therapies and family support as recommended by the NICE guidance, and dependent on clinical need. The unit will provide a safe and nurturing environment which includes provision of recreational facilities and access to education.

Patients have access to professionally qualified staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week offering skilled mental and physical health care. There will be an interactive and sociable environment where everyday communication between young people and staff is encouraged.
