Parents and carers needed for exciting new support roles in Tier 4 CAMHS

Oxford Health is seeking parents and carers of children who have been in inpatient CAMHS (child and adolescent mental health services), to provide peer support to families of children currently in hospital.

Parents and carers needed for exciting new support roles in Tier 4 CAMHS

When a child or young person’s mental health is such that hospital-based care is needed this brings significant challenges to the families.  Support is critical, and a newly established services seeks to find, train and support parents and carers who have themselves experienced the need for inpatient care for their child in the past.  This peer support will become an important part of the package of care that is delivered to families.

The Family Ambassador programme employs parents who, with their experience, are uniquely placed to add a new dimension of support to families whose children are currently needing inpatient treatment for a mental health condition. The roles are paid and can be ideal for those who are looking for flexible or part time roles.

The post holders will be supported and work as part of a team. The roles are flexible, and home based where this is preferred.

Lara Barnish, Regional Family Ambassador for Thames Valley Provider Collaborative, said: “This is a unique opportunity for people with the knowledge and experience to help others as a Family Ambassador and I look forward to hearing from anyone who is interested.”

“There is no commitment if you just want to get in touch to find out more, but I am sure many with the experience and knowledge will see it as a great opportunity for themselves and to help others.”
