Understanding Psychosis
Missenden Abbey, Great Missenden from 10am until 3:30pm

What does the term ‘Psychosis’ actually mean? This session will examine the symptoms of various Psychotic illnesses including Schizophrenia and Bipolar Affective Disorder and seek to offer some practical strategies for caring for such individuals as well as examining treatment intervention currently available. There will be an opportunity to discuss and consider the role that illicit drugs and alcohol may play in the development and/or exacerbation of psychotic symptoms.

Understanding medication, talking therapies and the Mental Health Act
Missenden Abbey, Great Missenden from 10am until 3:30pm

This session is designed to provide information on everything that the Carer is already deemed to know. Exactly what is medication and how can it be used effectively? What do I do if the person I care for doesn’t want to take it? What are talking therapies? Are they useful? Exactly what is the Mental Health Act? Who can use it and what rights do people have under it?

Venue, Time, Registration and Cost

All workshops are being held at Missenden Abbey, London Road, Great Missenden, HP16 0BD. Registration with refreshments is at 9:45am and the day will end by 3:30pm at the latest. All refreshments and a 3-course lunch are included. The cost of the workshop is £10 per person, payable by cheque to Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust or cash on the day.

Due to the high demand of applications we receive and limited space we have for these workshops we need to have a fair system to allow new carers first preference. Therefore, when you apply we will provisionally book you on the attendance list and contact you nearer the time to confirm your place. In the event that you cannot attend please call the office (leave a message on the answering machine) so that your place can be allocated to someone on the waiting list. If you have made payment in advance by cheque we will hold this amount until attendance is confirmed, otherwise it will be returned if we have not been able to offer you a place.

Chiltern Carers Forum at Missenden Abbey

Chiltern Carers Forum meetings will take place every month after the Carers Workshops at Missenden Abbey from 3:45pm to 4:45pm. This meeting is for Carers who care for someone in the Chiltern Area. Please tick if you are interested in attending on the application form overleaf. There will be a short break from 3:30pm to 3:45pm preceding these meetings.

Aylesbury Vale Carers Forum at Whiteleaf Centre

For those carers who live in Aylesbury Vale there are meetings that take place every second Monday of the month from 11:00am to 12:30pm at The Whiteleaf Centre. No need to book. Telephone: 01865 901287
