Key terms and glossaries

Often in healthcare we can use terms that make sense to those of us that work within the system, but aren’t common or are confusing to those who use our services. This can include using acronyms without explaining them.

CMHF (Community Mental Health Framework)

The community mental health framework is a 4 year project looking at the provision of mental health services in the community.

This is national project but broken down into local areas, for example Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire have their own separate projects.

The aim is to look at what services need to provide to adequately meet the needs of the population in the present and future.

EBE (Expert by Experience)

An expert by experience, sometimes shortened to EBE, is someone who has gained knowledge and understanding of something by experiencing it.

In our case, this means people who have been service users or cared for those that have used the services that we provide and therefore have a unique perspective and understanding of them which staff do not have.

Forensics

Forensic mental health services, often shortened simply to forensics, refer to mental health and learning disabilities provided to those who may be detained under criminal legislation or be subject to this in the community.

A person may have committed a crime due to ill health or become unwell whilst within the criminal justice system.
