Veterans’ Health

Military Veteran Aware Accreditation is a new national scheme to improve medical care and treatment for former members of the armed services that has been backed by NHS England and the Royal College of GPs.

The RCGP has produced a Veterans’ Healthcare Toolkit on how to meet the healthcare needs of patients who served and their families.

NHS Healthcare for the Armed Forces is a free e-Learning package from Health Education England e-LfH aimed at healthcare professionals to help increase understanding of the armed forces population and facilitate improved care and treatment. The programme is split across three areas of NHS care for current serving personnel, the families of serving personnel and veterans, and for veterans.

A short screencaset – Military Veterans – on the RCGP elearning platform introduces the current state of health of Britain’s 2.5 million military veterans and focuses on common aspects of veteran’s health, such as physical and emotional trauma and how all members of the primary care team can honour the military covenant by following appropriate referral patterns for ex-military personnel.

The CPD Zone is brought to you by the GP schools of Health Education England working across Thames Valley and Wessex, in association with Oxford Health FT Library.
