Improving prescribing around antibiotics

Public Health England has published new guidance  on antimicrobial resistance, effective methods to avoid unnecessary prescribing of antibiotics and advice for healthcare professionals around:

  • using PHE’s prescribing toolkits
  • involving patients in shared decision making
  • issuing delayed prescriptions
  • encouraging good hygiene practices such as hand washing
  • comparing prescribing practice with peers
