elearning on Perinatal Mental Health

Studies done have shown that between 10 and 20% of women develop a mental illness during pregnancy or within the first year after having a baby and is the leading causes of death for mothers during pregnancy and the year after birth.

Working with stakeholders Health Education England’s e-Learning for Healthcare (e-LfH) programme has developed five perinatal mental health e-learning modules. The modules have been designed specifically for healthcare professionals who have contact with a mother or baby from the period prior to conception until the child is one-year old. The first two introductory sessions, provide a broad overview of the topic and essential learning points for all health professionals. The three subsequent sessions focus on different stages in a mother’s journey – the pregnancy, birth and the first year of a child’s life.
