Patient safety training

Published: 18 August, 2016

HETV has commissioned The Patient Safety Academy to provide patient safety training packages for healthcare staff and organisations across Thames Valley.

Three different types of course are available, customised to help staff in different safety roles:

  • Human Factors based Incident Analysis course; aimed at those with clinical governance roles at hospital or regional level
  • Trainers course; aimed at those tasked with disseminating learning about Human Factors and safety; will develop participants as educators, with a more in depth knowledge of the subject matter
  • Improvement Project Management course; aimed at clinical staff and managers wanting to run projects which address specific issues in their organisation. These will be multidisciplinary focussing on systems analysis, staff engagement and quality improvement techniques

There will be 20 half day introductory  courses for up to 20 people each:

  • Aimed at: multidisciplinary teams who normally work together and single specialty groups if a good case for tackling a patient safety issue is made
  • Objective: to provide an introduction to improvement methodology for reviewing patient safety concerns and developing an action plan

In addition there will be 6 advanced 2 day courses for smaller groups of staff:

  • Aimed at: staff who have specific remits for patient safety or quality improvement within organisations
  • Objective: to provide a high level of training appropriate to more senior and investigative roles in Trusts
