OBMH is delighted to have scored ‘good’ in the Healthcare Commission Acute Inpatient Mental Health Service Review published today.

The Trust scored top marks in a number of areas including the range of activities and therapies available for patients on our wards and the information available to them when they are admitted.

David Bradley, Chief Operating Officer, said, “We have been working really hard over the past few years to improve inpatient services for our patients and I’m delighted that this has been recognised in the recent survey. We feel it is really important to provide the right services when patients are admitted into our inpatient services to ensure that they can return home to their friends and families as soon as possible. We also know how important it is to ensure patients and relatives receive as much information as possible when they enter our wards as this can be a distressing time for them.”

As well as celebrating areas of achievement, the Trust is also looking closely at the areas where improvements can be made.

David said, “We continue to look at ways in which we can improve our services and the results of this survey helps us to identify areas where we can make a difference. We will be investing £65million over the next five years to bring the environments of all our inpatient units up to the same high standard. This will ensure that all our wards will provide single en-suite rooms for all patients. It will also mean they have access to bright airy communal areas, outside space and continue to have privacy when they need it.

“We will also continue to develop our community services to ensure that we can provide alternatives to hospital admission in the community and that if patients are admitted to hospital it is only for a short period
