Group B strep (GBS) is a leading cause of meningitis and sepsis in newborns worldwide and is up to 90% preventable with proper testing and treatment. This month helps to raise awareness of GBS, highlighting the need for routine testing in pregnant women. Testing is so important since approximately 10% – 25% of pregnant women carry GBS, and about half of infections occur in mothers who have no risk factors.
