Ashurst Ward win April’s Exceptional People Team Award

Ashurst Ward at Littlemore Mental Health Centre is an 11-bed acute short-term adult inpatient ward, where staff provide intensive psychiatric care.

The staff on Ashurst Ward care for some of the most vulnerable in our community – they are there to support their recovery, make them feel safe and most importantly care for them at a time when they need it most. The ward has an integral part to play in the patient’s recovery and future quality of life.

The team are compassionate and kind, working together to support and listen to each other and their patients.

The staff continuously work hard to make the ward a safe place to work. Patients are always at the heart of their care, making sure they engage and listen to patients to support and improve their stay so they feel safe.

The team have great support from the management team and all the colleagues on the ward. The management team listen and encourage staff, assisting them with improvements and aiming for the best outcomes. The team environment is positive with staff wanting to come to work as they feel safe and truly supported.

By providing a safe ward, patients can focus on their health, express their views, and offer feedback – all whilst feeling secure and safe, resulting to a quicker recovery.

The nomination

Ashurst Ward was nominated by Health Care Assistant Kim Blake for working together and creating a safe environment.

Kim commented:

“Even when the team face challenging times, we are always there for each other, supporting colleagues at work as well as checking in on them at home.

“We listen to patients and take action to make them feel safe on the ward and help them with their recovery. I have never worked for a team that support each other as much as this team does.”
