Bill Wells, Head of Research & Development at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust to retire.

Our colleague and Head of Research and Development Bill Wells is retiring after more than ten successful years with the Trust.

Bill Wells, Head of Research & Development at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust to retire.

Bill joined the NHS as a Business Case Development Accountant in 2008 where his NHS career started in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire (OBMH) Mental Health Trust.

By December 2018 Bill had become Head of Research & Development at Oxford Health merging with the role of Head of Research and Development Finance.   Since 2018 Bill has successfully steered R&D efforts across the Trust.

Reflecting on his Trust career Bill told us:

“While it will be a sad day to leave Oxford Health, and so many of the fantastic, committed colleagues it is nice to reflect on some of the key achievements and successes. We redirected research funding to allow the development of the Clinical Research Facility, the first NIHR Infrastructure award which led to the establishment of the Biomedical Research Centre. I was also very proud of the way in which the whole of R&D responded to the demands of delivering the Novavax covid vaccine trial.”

Professor John Geddes Head of Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford and Director of Research and Development for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust said:

“I have spent 14 rewarding years working alongside Bill. He has been at the helm of R&D developments at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and has played a pivotal role in the team – generating terrific opportunities and then delivering incredible achievements across the partnership with the University.”

“Bill’s ever calm approach, combined with humour, willingness to support colleagues and passion for excellence have propelled the R&D department towards great success over the last few years. His is a truly outstanding achievement. I wish him all the very best for his next stage.”

We would like to take this opportunity to wish Bill all the very best in his next chapter and thank him for his unwavering guidance and support throughout the years which so many of us have benefited from.
