Bucks CAHMS team get top marks for great care

It’s that time of the week again when we say a big “Well Done” to another amazing Oxford Health team.

Bucks CAHMS team get top marks for great care

Each week we declare midweek “Well Done Wednesday” and highlight some fabulous independent five star reviews from the I Want Great Care website.

Today’s start team is the Buckinghamshire CAMHS pathway for children and young people with Intellectual Disabilities. They work with children, young people, their families and the other agencies that support them, to create positive changes.

They also work directly with young people to help them find other ways to express and deal with their emotions and improve their mental health.

The team includes Clinical Psychologists, a Clinical Psychologist in Training, an assistant psychologist, a senior mental health practioner, a consultant psychiatrist, a senior behaviour specialist and a Speech and Language Therapist, supported by the operational lead and a fantastic team admin.

Alongside other therapeutic interventions the Team provides a Positive Behaviour Support approach for families and young people, and with the support of the Trust’s Quality Improvement Team they are working towards improving access to Positive Behaviour Support for all young people with Autism and/or an Intellectual Disability across Buckinghamshire.

Rachel Bailey, operational lead, said: “It is wonderful to know that the work the team does has been recognised through some wonderful reviews.

“We seek to reduce the health inequalities and promote equal access to care for young people with intellectual disabilities.

“COVID-19 has presented many challenges for the young people we support and has increased the pre-exisiting health inequalities. The team have worked hard to continue to engage our service users and other agencies through a variety of methods, as virtual working has presented an additional challenge to accessing services for some our clients.”

According to one reviewer the service was “very responsive and very supportive. They were there when we needed them.” And one family said: “Thank you so much for being so efficient! We really appreciate it. We’re sure that your letter will be very useful so thank you so much for it”.

And although all Oxford Health team strive for continual improvement, the comments from one client proves Buckinghamshire CAHMS are on the right track: “There isn’t anything I would improve.  The service was really good for us.”
