I am writing to you in my role as Chair of the Bucks Service User and Carer Organisation (SUCO) to introduce ourselves and let you have a little background on our role and work.

Bucks SUCO is a newly formed user led organisation. SUCO was created and is led by service users and carers and emerged from the Bucks Service Users and Carers Self Directed Support Reference Group, which still forms a core part of SUCO’s work. The principles of ‘personalisation’ are very much at the heart of what we do.

We have been commissioned by Buckinghamshire County Council following a central Government decision for every local authority to ensure, that service users and carers are actively included when designing and developing the policy and delivery of adult social care services.

This is a very exciting project, which will benefit both service users and carers. There is a genuine commitment at County level to ensure clear and effective consultation with service users and carers on all adult social care issues. We are very keen to forge close links with you as our work and role develops.

A first and immediate task for us is to identify a number of carers and service users to be representatives on Partnership Boards.  The aim of the Partnership Boards is to bring together local service users, carers, relevant voluntary societies, the Primary Care Trust and County Council commissioners to advise and make recommendations on the joint development of health, social care and related services in Buckinghamshire

Partnership Boards will provide a forum where discussions can take place between service users, carers and commissioners on services being provided in Buckinghamshire. They will champion the needs of service users and carers and represent their views to ensure services are accessible and responsive to their needs.

The Partnership Boards’ current priorities are:

  • Helping People to speak up and be active citizens
  • Supporting Carers
  • Day and Employment Opportunities
  • Housing and Support
  • Improving Health
  • Personalisation.

We are very keen to ensure that representation fully reflects people across the county who access or have an interest in, Adult Social Care Services either as a user or a carer.

The Partnership Boards we are currently being asked to provide nominations for are:

  • Physical and Sensory Development (PSD) Partnership Board
  • Older Persons Partnership Board
  • Mental Health Partnership Board
  • Carers Partnership Board

In particular we are looking for people to:

  • Become a member of a County Partnership Board.
  • Join our Board at SUCO.
  • Become a member of one of our special interest groups.
  • Work with us and from time to time contribute on consultation exercises – these are wide ranging; from shaping policy, design of service delivery to monitoring performance.

If you are interested in coming to join us then we would be delighted to hear from you or if you have any questions about the work we do, then do please get in touch with Debi Game, Development Worker: debi@thebucks-ulo.org.uk or via her mobile number: 07817 530611

With best wishes

Alison Lewis
