Health Matters is a series of health talks given by the clinicians and researchers working for Oxford Health NHS FT. The short talks will cover a range of topics with an opportunity to ask questions.

All are welcome to attend and no prior knowledge of the subject matter is needed. The first talk in the series will be given by Dr Rob Ferris.

Reducing Violence and Mental Disorder, the contribution of Forensic Psychiatry

Mental Disorder is common, and is now known to be associated with  a modest but significant increase in the risk of violence and aggression, particularly when accompanied by co-morbid alcohol and substance misuse. Dr Ferris surveys the current state of Forensic Psychiatry as a theoretical and practical discipline, and looks at some of the ethical dilemmas which can arise for its practitioners in trying to balance the potentially conflicting interests of dangerous disordered individuals and public protection.

Entrance to the event will be free for Oxford Health NHS FT Members and Members of Science Oxford. Please bring proof of membership when you arrive on the night.

Entrance for all other attendees will be £5.
