Local carers of older people with mental health needs are invited to attend the Healthy Living Fair where they can get information and advice on health and social care support available to them.
The event, organised by Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (OBMH) in partnership with Buckinghamshire County Council, will be addressing the issues that affect older people with mental health needs, and their carers, from black and minority ethnic communities.
The event, to be held at the Multicultural Centre, Aylesbury, on Thursday 13 March from 10:00 to 15:00, has been designed to inform carers about the services available. There will be people on hand to give advice and information about benefits, support for carers, the Alzheimer’s Society, the Adult Learning Service, fire safety and handyman services.
There will also be a food demonstration to highlight the benefits of nutrition and healthy eating and complimentary therapies such as head, neck and hand massages.
Refreshments will be available throughout the day along with childcare facilities for those with young children.
Hina Pancholi, Carer Support Worker from OBMH, said, “We are hoping to attract lots of carers from black and ethnic minority communities who look after older people with mental health needs. It is important for us to let them know what services are available and to find out what else we can do to help.”
