How do social skills affect daily life for people with Alzheimer’s dementia?

Participants are being recruited for the Social Cognition and Functioning in Alzheimer’s Dementia (SOCIAL) study at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.

How do social skills affect daily life for people with Alzheimer’s dementia?

People with Alzheimer’s dementia often have changes in their social functioning, meaning relationships with friends and family and their activities and hobbies.

The SOCIAL study aims to find out what affects social functioning so that researchers can learn to help people with Alzheimer’s dementia improve their social functioning.

One possible cause of social functioning problems in people with Alzheimer’s dementia is that social cognition skills, such as considering what others are thinking is adversely affected.

Researchers want to test the social cognition skills in a large group of people with Alzheimer’s disease to establish whether this affects their social functioning. This information will then improve understanding of the symptoms and clarify what sort of treatments could help people with the condition.
