Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (OBMH) held an official opening ceremony to mark the new specialist eating disorders service in Marlborough, Wiltshire on 25th November.

The 12-bed unit, based on the Savernake Hospital site, opened its doors to patients on 1st September. The new unit offers inpatient, day patient and outpatient specialist eating disorders services for adults.

The unit was officially opened by Susan Ringwood, Chief Executive of the national leading eating disorders charity beat, and marked by the cutting of a ribbon.

Susan said, “Units such as Cotswold House in Marlborough are vital in helping people to cope with their eating disorder. Having an eating disorder is extremely difficult for the people suffering and also their families and friends. Having a unit that offers such specialised care in a calm and safe environment is fantastic for the local people in Wiltshire and the surrounding area.”

Many patients have already started their journey towards recovery on the unit and have so far welcomed the support they receive from staff and the environment in which it is provided.

One patient said, “I can only describe Cotswold House Marlborough as a warm and nurturing environment. The staff here are so understanding, supportive and compassionate and are a major contributing factor in making my recovery seem so much more manageable and achievable”

The unit has seen a successful first few months since opening and staff, many from the local area, have worked hard to ensure everything has been running smoothly.

Louise Tohill, Unit Manager, OBMH, said, “We are really happy that the new unit has already started to help patients towards their recovery. This is a real tribute to the team of enthusiastic staff who have worked tirelessly to make the unit a real success. We hope that our patients leave the unit feeling able to cope with their eating disorder and looking forward to a bright future ahead of them
