Two Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust psychiatrists have been recognised for their expertise in their fields of medicine with a shortlisting in the national Royal College of Psychiatry Awards.
Dr Shah Faisal Tarfarosh, a resident doctor with the City and North East Adult Mental Health Team (Oak Team) in Oxford, has been shortlisted for Higher Psychiatric Trainee of the Year.
Shortlisted for Psychiatric International Medical Graduate Champion of the Year is Dr Hasanen Al-Taiar, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist at the Oxford Clinic.
The winners are to be announced early in November.
Shah said: “I’m grateful to be shortlisted for this award—a milestone made possible by the encouragement of mentors, the support of colleagues, and the daily inspiration I find in my patients.
“I’m committed to driving meaningful change in mental health care by continually enhancing my own emotional intelligence and supporting my colleagues in developing theirs further.”
Hasanen said: “I am a consultant forensic psychiatrist with extensive experience in clinical practice, education, and leadership. Supporting international medical graduates (IMGs) has always been a passion of mine.
“I’ve been fortunate to serve as a mentor, tutor, and examiner for both the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Clinical Assessment of Skills and Competencies exams and the General Medical Council’s Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board 2 test. In these roles, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of future psychiatrists, both in the UK and globally. My work with IMGs has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career, and I am committed to advocating for equal opportunities and providing the support they need to thrive in their medical journeys.”
Dr Karl Marlowe, Chief Medical Officer, said: “As a Trust we endeavour to nurture an environment of innovation and expertise which support developments in medicine and continuous excellence and improvement in the care we provide.
“It is extremely heartening to see the commitment, professionalism and innovation of colleagues recognised in this year’s Royal College of Psychology shortlisting. We cross our fingers for November’s final outcomes.”
