Allen Ward on the Warneford Hospital site opened its doors again on 12th June after six months of refurbishments and building work that has modernised the 21-bed ward.

The new look ward now offers a female-only corridor, bathroom and enclosed garden, a large communal living area and front garden.

Michele Harding, Lead Nurse, oversaw the development and said, “When you are experiencing mental health problems it is important that you are able to receive treatment in a safe and therapeutic environment, this new purpose-built ward has been designed to meet these needs and offer space that is relaxing without being too ‘clinical’.”

“People admitted to the ward will also be able to benefit from a number of other services currently provided on the Warneford site such as the Day Hospital which in itself offers a variety of activities and interventions.”

The state-of the-art ward offers assessment and treatment for adults of working age (18-65) experiencing a variety of mental health illnesses.
