Privacy and dignity is important to everyone and as you may be aware the NHS has recently launched a privacy, dignity and respect campaign. Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (OBMH) have been working with service users, carers and staff on some Privacy and Dignity Promises.

To mark national Dignity Action Day (25th February) OBMH is launching the promises via the website www.obmh.nhs.uk and the Trust social networking groups. OBMH has made a short film about the promises which contains real life experiences from service users and carers. This film will be made available to all staff across the Trust and will be used for staff training purposes.

The OBMH Privacy and Dignity Promises are:

  • We promise to treat you with respect and compassion
  • We promise to listen to you and treat you as an individual
  • We promise to address you appropriately, as you would wish
  • We promise not to allow language or other communications issues to become a barrier to understanding
  • We promise to make sure you have access to information and choices appropriate to your care
  • We promise to let you know how to access advocacy and support services if you need them
  • We promise you will be greeted and made to feel welcome when you are on a Trust site
