Oxford Health celebrates 125 years of nursing education

People of all ages are invited to come along to a special Garden Party within the Warneford Hospital’s historic grounds on Saturday 2 July 2016 to help Oxford Health celebrate 125 years of nursing education in the county.

People of all ages are invited to come along and help Oxford Health celebrate 125 years of nursing education in the county with a special Garden Party within the Warneford Hospital’s historic grounds.

The Garden Party is taking place on Saturday 2 July 2016, and will feature various stalls, including a cake stand and cream tea stall; a raffle with prizes generously donated by local businesses; an exhibition to showcase nursing through the ages as well as the history of the Warneford and music and dance entertainment.

Ros Alstead, Director of Nursing at Oxford Health NHS FT, said: “We have a rich history of nursing here in Oxfordshire and as part of Oxford Brookes University’s year-long celebration of nursing education, we wanted to do something to both mark such an amazing milestone and also celebrate the amazing work of all our nursing staff.

“We hope that people will come along and enjoy the afternoon and enjoy looking at the exhibition that will provide a brief glimpse into how the role of nursing has changed so much over the years.”

“There will be cakes and tea for sale on the day and a raffle with some really good prizes kindly donated by local businesses, and all the money we raise on the day will go to the Trust’s charitable funds.”

The day will also mark the opening of the new Warneford wild flower meadow, an ongoing development which has involved collaboration with staff, carers and service users to complete the project over the past year. The meadow will be used for gardening, photography and art groups, yoga and more.

Ros added: “This is a really special thing for a lot of patients who have been involved in the project so it seemed fitting that the official opening was incorporated into this celebration.”

The garden party will be completely free for people to get in and takes place between 1.30pm and 4pm.
