Sandford Ward is a 14 bed inpatient unit for males predominantly over the age of 65 with mental health conditions and/or living with dementia. The team works together with the inpatient to promote dignity and choice in the planning and implementation of individualised care and treatment. The ward has a large staff team to support patient needs including doctors, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, pharmacists and a social worker.
Laura Parsons, modern matron, said: “The team strives to provide an excellent service for our patients and we are pleased to see this reflected in the feedback.
“We really value the I Want Great Care feedback and the team are highly motivated to ensure ongoing improvement to enhance the patient experience.”
One patient who left a review said: “Skilled team. Extremely good care planning for discharge.”
Another service user said: “All the staff including housekeeping team treated me with dignity and respect. Despite my reservations and awkwardness in the beginning my respect for everyone grew. The doctors all explained everything in a way I could understand which was helpful.”
Another reviewer said: “I got more than I expected. Having been in a care home before there is no comparison. The staff were always helpful and friendly and a pleasure to work with. I found the relaxation groups where we practiced breathing particularly helpful.”
“I am very grateful for all the support and guidance I have received from all of the staff team,” said a final reviewer. “I am hopefully in a much more positive state of mind than when I was admitted some weeks ago. So deeply thank you to all of you.”
