Last year, the Prime Minister announced the introduction of the ‘Friends and Family (F&F) Test’ to improve patient care and identify the best performing hospitals in England. The Friends and Family Test asks the following question; how likely are you to recommend our ward to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment? to identify areas of improvement and focus on patients experiences of using services. The Friends and Family Test will be put in place from 1 April 2013 for Acute Trusts, Community Hospitals, Accident and Emergency departments and Minor Injury Units across the Country.

As a Trust we actively encourage feedback from our patients and carers in order to continually improve our services. To prepare for the launch of the Friends and Family Test across our Community Hospitals and Minor Injury Units in Oxfordshire we are been running a pilot to try out different ways of collecting feedback from our patients. We have been trialling different methods of surveying including a postcard survey, an online survey, the use of an electronic kiosk and a freephone number to enable patients to complete the survey over the telephone. The pilot will end in March allowing the Trust time to review the methods used in order to support the launch of the Friends and Family Test from 1st April 2013.

We are already making plans to support the roll out of the Friends and Family Test across our other services later this year in line with Government plans to implement this across all health services.
