Mental health staff scooped a prestigious ‘Celebrating Success’ health award in recognition of the improvements that they were making to the lives of the people they care for.

The Thames Valley Initiative (TVI) is a three county service covering Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. It is a network of services for people who have emotional or mental health difficulties – sometimes described as ‘personality disorder’ or ‘complex needs’. Traditionally, this group of people have not had the support they need to recover from their illness and to lead more fulfilling lives. TVI is offering treatment in non-institutional settings and facilitates ongoing support for service users accessing employment and training.

TVI is a project involving a number of health and voluntary sector partners and was put forward for the award by Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust.

The team fought off stiff competition to win the award in the ‘Health Improvement and Reducing Health Inequality’ category at the annual Celebrating Success Awards event held by the South Central Health Authority. The award makes it three in a row for the Trust which has been successful in winning awards at the same event in the previous two years.

Chief Executive of the Trust Julie Waldron said:

“We are delighted to receive this award. The Team have worked hard to develop the service to bring about huge benefits to the people they are caring for. It is a credit to them that the quality of these improvements has been recognised at the awards ceremony.”

The Trust is in a winning streak: the TVI project was also shortlisted for a national Health Services Journal prize, a member of TVI staff was highly commended in the recent CSIP Positive Practice Awards and a second project, the Crisis Day Services Bridge Building Team made it to the final of the Celebrating Success awards.
