WOAPA performs with Queen’s Brian May

Since the COVID-19 lockdown, Brian May from Queen has been recording videos of himself playing guitar at home and challenging people to make their own videos at home, virtually playing or singing along with him. West Oxfordshire Academy of Performing Arts singing group took the challenge on and dedicated their beautiful piece for the NHS staff and other key workers.

One of the singers is Oxford Health’s Holly Squires, service manager for the Continuing Healthcare Service, seen in the top right hand corner on the video.

Principal Brian Conroy said: “We like a good challenge – so here is our version of ‘Love Of My Life’ featuring Brian May on guitar.”

The virtual choir was conducted by Louise Conroy.

The couple said: “During this time of great uncertainty we are constantly thinking about our wonderful WOAPA singers and looking at ways we can continue to get them all singing at home.
We’ve always received emails from singers saying how taking part in our groups has helped them, in a variety of ways, so we know first-hand what the benefits of singing are – from the experienced to the absolute beginner. Keep singing folks!”

Earlier in the spring the singing group produced another virtual performance: Thankful. See it here
