The Community Respiratory service operates across Oxfordshire and offers a range of support to enable patients with chronic respiratory conditions, such as COPD and lung disease, to be cared for at home where possible. The service works alongside primary health care teams, including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and social workers.
Jo Riley, Clinical Lead and Manager of the Community Respiratory service, said: “A referral can be made to us through a GP or healthcare professional. Once we have received this, our patients are offered education on management of their lung condition as well as pulmonary rehabilitation, which is a six-week exercise and learning course that assists them with their illness.”
Chris Swindale, Pulmonary Rehab Team lead, added: “We are so grateful that our hard work is recognised. The lovely five-star I Want Great Care reviews keep us motivated to continue providing excellent support.”
All patients and service users who receive care and support from Oxford Health are encouraged to provide reviews on the independent I Want Great Care website. The Trust encourages reviews as they help our teams learn where the quality and standards of care can be improved. It also lets us know where our clinicians are providing compassionate care and allows us to publicly recognise their work.
Below are just a few of the many positive comments the service has received:
“Staff were enthusiastic and helpful, explaining everything to me clearly.”
“The staff who treated me were very caring and attentive as well as knowledgeable!”
“The team were very professional as well as empathetic to all members on the course. They have made me want to continue my exercises! I feel so much better because of their support.”
