Kennett is a medium secure unit for people with mental health illness in Oxfordshire. As part of a multi-ward collaborative across services in Oxford, Kennett staff are looking to reduce their restrictive practices by improving the quality of care for their patients.
Project aim
The overall aim of the collaborative is to reduce restrictive practice overall by 1/3 by April 2020.
Kennett will design their local ward aim following the learning from the diagnostic phase of their work.
Methodology
Using the IHI model for improvement the team are currently in the early stages of answering the initial three questions and starting to diagnose and define the areas of restrictive practice they want to look at to improve. So far the ward activities and the implementation of ‘Safe Wards’ (Safewards 2019) have been suggested as areas of improvement to consider. The team are reviewing existing data around their restrictive practice and literature to help guide their decision making.
