Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Groups
TalkingSpace Plus provides effective talking treatments for people with a range of anxiety problems and/or depression. Many of our patients will be offered a place on and attend a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) group. The groups that we currently offer include:
- CBT for Depression
- CBT for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- CBT for Anxiety
- CBT for Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) – this is where worry is a key feature.
- CBT for Building Self-esteem
- CBT for Carers of people with Dementia
In addition to CBT groups we also offer Mindfulness Courses for those presenting with repeated episodes of depression but who are currently well.
Research indicates that some group treatments are as effective as individual treatment for many people and there is evidence to say people’s wellbeing is maintained after the group has finished.
Group treatment has some clear advantages including:
- You can get support from others who have similar difficulties.
- You can discover ways to manage and improve your symptoms in a structured setting with others.
- You can access treatment quickly.
- You can access treatment in the evening.
- The group programme introduces the same strategies used in individual treatment.
It is very common for people to have anxieties about attending a group and to express a preference for individual therapy. We are keen that if you are in need of a talking therapy that you get the right help as soon as possible. Groups are effective for many people and most people who attend a group find it helpful and appreciate meeting with other people experiencing similar difficulties. Please take a look at our frequently asked questions for more information.
