Assessments

The first step in your treatment

The first part of your treatment is a specialist assessment. This is carried out by one or two members of our team.

The assessment will last for about one hour and can take place in different ways:

  • Face to face at our base at Savernake Hospital (Marlborough)
  • Face to face at a base closer to you
  • Online via video call

During the assessment, we will ask you about your eating difficulties, how they affect your daily life, and your goals for treatment.

Measuring your height and weight

It is important that we take your height and weight as part of the assessment. We understand this can be difficult for some people. You can talk to us about the best way to take these measurements during the assessment. We will then record these, along with other checks, if needed. This information helps us decide the right treatment for you.

Before your appointment

We will send you an email with all the details you need for your appointment. If your appointment is a video call, we will include a link to join. If you can’t receive email, we can send you a letter and arrange a face-to-face assessment if you prefer.

We will also send you some questionnaires to fill in before your appointment. These help us understand what is affecting you and how best to advise you.

The questionnaires will ask about your eating difficulties, how they affect your life, and how they affect your mood and anxiety levels. This helps us decide what support or treatment will be most helpful for you.

After your assessment

After your assessment, we will discuss your case with the team. We will decide whether we can offer you a treatment that is right for you. A member of the team will call you to talk about the next steps.

We work together with you, your carers, and other professionals involved in your care to help you recover and manage the risks to your physical and mental health.

Your individual needs will help us decide how often you will meet with the team and what type of support you need.

Once the assessment is complete, we will send the report to you, your GP, and the services that referred you. The report will include suggestions for your treatment.
