Moving to adult services
This page is for young people who are being referred to the Wiltshire Community Eating Disorder Services (WCEDS) from Children and Adolescent Eating Disorder Services (TEDS).
Moving to adult services can be daunting. Read this page for information on what to expect.
Who will be involved?
Louise Bradwell, a mental health practitioner, is our ‘transition link’. She will meet with you alongside your current CAMHS practitioner and guide you through the entire process.
How does WCEDS compare to CAMHS?
In WCEDS, young people are responsible for making their own changes. As such, most of our treatments are offered on a one-to-one basis. Family members may be invited to sessions with your permission, but this is not essential.
This is different to family-based treatments often used in CAMHS. If you have been engaging with a family-based treatment in CAMHS, you may find it useful to ask your practitioner for support with managing this change.
Likewise, your parents or carers may find this change scary at first and might want to seek advice on how to manage this.
Some of the treatments WCEDS offers are like CAMHS; for example, both services offer one to one psychology work such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and both offer support with planning and eating meals. For more information on the treatments we offer, see the ‘Interventions’ section under the ‘About Us’ tab.
Confidentiality
Everything you say is confidential. We keep records on a secure system and share information with the team, but we do not share to anyone beyond this without your consent.
We would only break confidentiality if we were worried you or someone else was at risk of harm, and we would discuss this with you beforehand.
We would ask you who the best person for us to speak to would be. This could be your parents, your partner, someone you live with, a close friend, or your GP, for example.
