Minor Injuries Units and First Aid Units
What we do
Minor Injuries Units (MIUs)

Minor Injuries Units (MIUs) are for injuries that have been sustained in the last seven days that are not life-threatening, but still need treatment. They can treat things like:
- Deep cuts
- Eye injuries
- Broken bones
- Severe sprains
- Minor head injuries
- Minor burns and scalds
Many people go to Accident and Emergency (A&E) when they could be treated just as well — and probably quicker — at a Minor Injuries Unit.
In A&E, the doctors and nurses need to treat the most serious and life-threatening cases first. So if you have a minor injury, you may wait a long time to be seen.
It’s often better to go to a Minor Injuries Unit if there is one nearby.
First aid units (FAUs)
A first aid unit run by Oxford Health is based in Bicester (see below for more details.
- FAUs do not have X-ray facilities.
- You can get help from a FAU by calling 111 or phoning the unit directly.
- FAUs are run by a team of highly qualified nurse practitioners.
- They have lots of experience and expertise in treating minor injuries.
