Fun and laughter filled the air at the annual Learning Disability Have a Go Festival as nearly 200 participants plus their supporters took part.
The yearly event is hosted by the Learning Disability Service at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and local charity Active Oxfordshire and draws together people with a learning disability from across the county to try out new activities, meet new friends and have a go at a variety of sports and activities.
This event is a chance for people with learning disabilities to experience a range of activities and overcome some of the barriers they can experience when taking part in sports. It was a day filled with enthusiasm, encouragement, support and fun for all.
Attendees enjoyed adapted activities such as boxing, rugby, cycling, tennis, archery, football, tennis, boogie bounce, drums alive, functional fitness, boccia and curling.
Harry Bailey, Learning Disability Service clinical lead physiotherapist, said: “It was amazing to see so many people from the learning disability population together enjoying physical activities, since access to physical activities for this group of people is limited across the country. All the activities were provided by organisations which run activities locally and that means everyone who registered can take part in future if they wish. It was a really fun, inspiring day and a great catalyst for people to be more active in their own lives.”
