Jackie Burnham, Parkinson’s Disease Nurse Specialist, has retired from her post with the Trust following a long career in the NHS.  She first joined the NHS as a cadet nurse before qualifying in 1968 in the Wirral as a State Registered Nurse.

Jackie later took up a post as a night sister at the Horton General Hospital (HGH) in Banbury before transferring to day duty, working as senior staff nurse on Laburnum Ward at the HGH where she remained for many years.

In April 2002 Jackie joined the then Cherwell Vale Primary Care Trust, taking up the position of Parkinson’s Disease Nurse Specialist, a post which had been set up with assistance from the Parkinson’s Disease Society.   Jackie’s work encompassed working with patients and their families in their own homes, providing advice and support in all aspects of Parkinson’s Disease.   Jackie has also supported inpatient and community nurses in their care of patients with Parkinson’s Disease.

Jackie will be missed by both colleagues and patients alike.  We wish her a long and happy retirement.
