Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (OBMH) will open the doors to its new specialist eating disorders service in Marlborough, Wiltshire on 1st September.
The new 12-bed unit, based on the Savernake Hospital site, offers inpatient, day patient and outpatient specialist eating disorders services for adults.
Louise Tohill, Unit Manager, OBMH, said, “We are really excited finally to open the doors after months of hard work to get the unit ready. This is such a valuable service which will benefit local people who will now have access to specialist care on their doorstep.
“Eating disorders don’t just affect the sufferer but also their families. Our service not only offers specialist care and support for those suffering from an eating disorder, we also offer family therapy.”
A successful recruitment drive earlier in the year has meant that the unit has attracted an enthusiastic and skilled group of staff, many from the local area.
Louise said, “We have already been working closely with new staff over the past few weeks to ensure they have received all the relevant training before we open the unit on 1st September. We are confident that we have the right mix of staff to make this unit a real success.”
Julie Waldron, Chief Executive of OBMH said, “I would like to congratulate all of the staff at the Trust involved in setting up the unit and thank staff at Wiltshire Primary Care Trust for all their support. Working together enabled the Trust to open the unit on schedule with a full complement of staff. We have already been welcomed by the local community and are happy we are able to provide such a specialist service in Wiltshire.”
The Unit will hold an official opening later in the year.
