Oxford Health are delighted to announce the launch of the Menstrual Health and Menopause Clinic.

The clinic is designed to support patients known to Secondary Care Mental Health Services where there is an interplay between their mental health and the menstrual cycle or menopause.

Consultant Psychiatrist Dr Sophie Behrman said:

“There are often complex interactions between a person’s menstrual cycle or menopause and their mental health and this may be hard to recognise and manage in general mental health services.  This clinic is designed to help identify patients where hormones may be impacting their mental health and support their mental health teams to understand and manage this aspect of their health.”

“We hope this clinic will raise a wider awareness of the relationship between mental health, the menstrual cycle and menopause for patients and clinicians alike.”

The clinic primarily offers advice to clinicians, with select patients being offered one-off assessment appointments. Dr Sophie Behrman is also happy to run teaching sessions about menopause and menstrual health to any team in the Trust and for other clinicians with interests in the field to shadow appointments.

Referrals are accepted from patients who are being seen by the Trust’s Secondary Mental Health Teams, assessments may be offered to patients being seen by Oxfordshire Mental Health Teams. For referrals or further information, please contact: menopause.clinic@oxfordhealth.nhs.uk.
