As the hospital remains open throughout the project, with many clinics running daily, the building works will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption for patients and staff. You can see the phases outlined below.
Some noise and disruption are inevitable during the works. While every effort will be made to reduce this, we’ve answered some common questions below to help you know what to expect.
What’s happening to onsite car parking?
The builders will need a small compound next to the hospital, which means there will be fewer parking spaces available during the works.
To help manage this, the remaining spaces will be prioritised for:
- Drop-off and pick-up, including volunteer car drivers and patient transport services
- Patients with mobility challenges, many of whom will be Blue Badge holders
- Community staff who visit patients at home and collect supplies from the hospital
- Staff with mobility challenges, most of whom will be Blue Badge holders
With the support of local organisations, we’ve also secured additional off-site parking for staff just a few minutes’ walk away.
We’re also encouraging staff to use public transport, cycling, or other alternatives where possible.
Will I still be seen in the same clinic?
We’ll do everything we can to minimise disruption to existing clinics. However, some may need to move to a different room or area of the hospital during certain refurbishment phases.
If this affects your appointment, your clinical team will inform you in advance. Please check your appointment letter carefully for any change of location.
If you’re unsure, you can:
- Call the number provided in your appointment letter, or
- Ask at Reception when you arrive.
If I have a problem, who should I contact?
For questions about your clinic appointment, contact your clinical team using the details in your appointment letter.

Is the maternity unit affected?
No. The maternity unit on the first floor is not part of the refurbishment.
The team is being kept informed about the work on the ground floor to help minimise any impact on people using maternity services.
