Managing Medical emergencies

We follow the Medical Emergencies in Eating Disorders (MEED) guidance for the recognition and management of acute risks in patients with eating disorders:

MEED: Medical emergencies in eating disorders (CR233)

Community mental health framework hubs

Community mental health hubs are being developed to provide step-up and step-down care for individuals with eating difficulties, bridging support between primary care and specialist services. These hubs will work closely with ACEDS to expand treatment and support for patients with both clinical and subclinical eating disorders in the community.

Shared care and joint working

If a patient presents with eating difficulties but does not meet the criteria for a primary eating disorder diagnosis, we are happy to offer consultation or discuss a shared care approach.

Where patients under our care may benefit from additional support for co-occurring mental or physical health conditions, we will liaise with appropriate teams to coordinate care.

This may include developing a joint treatment plan or transferring care, based on what is safe, appropriate, and agreed upon by all parties involved.
