Waiting list

Our priority is to offer high quality assessments to patients with a Buckinghamshire GP who may be autistic. We offer a post-diagnostic group for those diagnosed with autism through our service.

We are sorry that people requiring adult autism diagnostic services have lengthy waiting times nationally and agree this is unsatisfactory.

We too are experiencing unprecedented demand. We receive many more referrals per month than we have capacity to assess, therefore waiting times are expected to increase further. We regularly advocate for additional resources and improvements in services.

Accepted assessments

If accepted for assessment our administrator can confirm you are on the waiting list but cannot estimate an individual waiting time.

Patients we have assessed this year have waited an average of 3 years.

As demand for the service has increased, your own waiting time may be significantly longer.

While you’re waiting

We recognise sometimes a person’s mental health may worsen (e.g. low mood, anxiety, stress) while they are on a waiting list for a specialist assessment.

If this happens please contact your GP who can make an assessment of your needs and determine if a referral to a mental health team, via Gateway, is appropriate.

NHS Talking Therapies

If you need support with mood, stress or anxiety, you may wish to self-refer to Buckinghamshire Talking Therapies.
