Supervised toothbrushing
What is supervised toothbrushing?
The Supervised Toothbrushing Scheme is designed to support children aged 3-5 years in developing good oral health habits and learning proper toothbrushing techniques to protect their teeth for life.
This initiative helps children establish healthy routines early on, which are vital for maintaining good oral hygiene.
What is provided and where does it happen?
As part of the scheme, children are provided with toothpaste and toothbrushes to use while brushing their teeth.
The toothbrushing session takes place once a day within their early years or school setting, where children are closely supervised to ensure proper brushing.
What training and support is given?
We provide training for staff to ensure they can safely deliver the toothbrushing scheme.
In addition, staff receive ongoing support to help them implement the scheme effectively, ensuring a safe and positive experience for the children.
What do I need to do as a parent/guardian?
As a parent or guardian, you will need to sign a consent form with the early years setting or school to allow your child to participate in the toothbrushing scheme.
This ensures that your child can take part in this important initiative.
Can older children participate?
While the scheme is primarily aimed at children aged 3-5 years, there is some flexibility to include slightly older children, particularly those in Special Educational Settings.
This helps ensure that all children have the opportunity to develop good oral health habits.
