Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be referred to use this service?
Yes. This is a referral-only service. You will need to be referred by your General Dental Practitioner or another healthcare professional.
What kind of patients is this service for?
We support individuals who may find it difficult to receive dental care in a standard setting, including those with mental health challenges, learning difficulties, or severe dental anxiety.
What happens after I’m referred?
Once we receive your referral, our team will review the information and contact you (or your carer) to arrange an initial assessment.
Will I have to pay for my treatment?
NHS dental charges usually apply, but some people may qualify for full or partial exemptions. Your referring dentist or our team can help you understand if this applies to you.
What if I’m very nervous or scared of the dentist?
We understand that dental visits can be difficult. Our team is specially trained to work with anxious patients, and we’ll take the time to make you feel as safe and comfortable as possible.
Will I be put to sleep for treatment?
Not always. If a patient requires treatment under Inhalation Sedation, Intravenous Sedation or a General Anaesthetic this will be discussed in further detail and the dentist will explain the next steps with you.
