On Thursday 19 July, the Trust hosted its third staff awards evening to recognise and reward the hard work and achievements of staff from across the Trust. Members of staff shortlisted for an award were invited to attend the celebratory evening, dining with colleagues and Board members before the formal awards ceremony commenced.
Staff of the Year Awards
Julie Waldron, Chief Executive, and Martin Howell, Chairman, started by presenting the various staff member of the year awards. Those shortlisted had been nominated by colleagues across the Trust prior to the awards evening. Each winner was presented with an engraved crystal award and certificate and the runners-up each received a certificate. The winners and runners-up in each category were:
Community Health Nurse of the Year 2012
Winner: Sarah Gardner, Clinical Lead for Community Tissue Viability Service
Runner-up: Carole Lowe, Dental Nurse/General Anaesthetic Co-ordinator
Mental Health Nurse of the Year 2012
Winner: Sharon Ryan, Clinical Nurse Lead, Marlborough House, Swindon
Runner-up: Holly Harman, Community Acute Service Manager, Buckinghamshire
Therapist of the Year 2012
Winner: Jill Higson, Occupational Therapist, Kimmeridge Ward
Runner-up: Christopher Long, PCAMHS Learning Disability Service
Community Health Care Assistant of the Year 2012
Winner: Geraldine Southgate, Assistant Practitioner, Community Bladder and Bowel Service
Mental Health Care Assistant of the Year 2012
Winner: Fiona Johnston, Healthcare Assistant, Community Acute Service, Buckinghamshire
Support Services Staff Member of the Year 2012
Winner: Yoma Okiti, Domestic Supervisor, Didcot Community Hospital
Runner-up: Katie Cleaver, Emergency Planning Lead
Chairman’s Special Recognition Award 2012
Martin then presented the Chairman’s Special Recognition Award 2012. This was the first year that the Trust has made this award, which recognises contributions to the integration of physical and mental healthcare, delivering the Trust’s values and demonstrating care.
Winner: Maureen Cundell, Older Adult Community Psychiatric Nurse and Staff Governor
Maureen received an engraved crystal award and certificate.
Care Programme Approach Awards
Julie and Martin then went on to present the winners of the two Care Programme Approach (CPA) awards with a cheque for £250 each. The winners were:

Chief Executive’s Innovation Award 2012
The final award of the evening was the Chief Executive’s Innovation Award 2012. Every year, Julie Waldron requests applications from innovative projects that work towards improved patient experience, service development and new ways of working. This year six projects were shortlisted.
Julie announced the winner of the award, presenting them with a cheque for £5000.

Runners-up: Constraint Induced Movement Therapy Groups for Children with Hemiplegia – Oxfordshire Children’s Community Physiotherapy Service
Promoting Access to Health Services Volunteer Project – Luther Street Medical Centre Oxford
Kick the Habit Smoking Cessation Programme – Physiotherapy Team with Mental Health Services
Non-Conveyed Faller Pilot – Oxfordshire Falls Prevention Service
Systemic Assessment Clinic – City Central CMHT, Oxfordshire
