The nomination

The team was nominated by Oxford Brookes University Placement Lead and Senior Lecturer Carol Gee. Carol nominated the team for making a huge difference to the students, helping to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

Carol said:

“We had consistent feedback from over 20 students on placement with the team in the past year. The talked about the level of support, guidance and both practical and psychological safety for them to take positive risks with their learning. They said team members were great role models for students to emulate. They also praised the team for therapeutic interventions beyond medication and supportive nursing observations which were focused, constructive and meaningful. And they said the team were always open to helping learners and providing a positive experience.”

Inpatient Ward Manager Jamie-Lou Franklin said: “It’s great to win the Exceptional People Team Award for December. To know we are inspiring our future NHS professionals is a wonderful feeling and we hope to continue to empower and encourage the students on placement.”

Chief Executive Grant Macdonald added: “It’s fantastic to recognise Allen Ward Nursing Team for their continuing commitment to those on their ward, whether it be patients, loved ones or colleagues. They are deserving winners, inspiring placement nurse students and receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback for their team culture and the excellent training experience they offer.”
